Shoyu sideboard

Description

Shoyu sideboard is a solitaire piece of furniture inspired by traditional Japanese woodcarving and the precise craft of wood joinery. The cabinet rests on a base of slender sheet-metal plates and timber blocks, which let the body appear to float above the floor.

The surface follows the Shou Sugi Ban technique of charred wood, with a hand-carved, textured finish that contrasts with the clean metal. The interior is stained in a strong colour, which adds visual character and a contrast of materials as soon as the doors are opened.
